Project Kalinga

We launched a donation drive to benefit Malagnat National High School, whose rural setting and lack of technological support has left their students at a severe disadvantage amid the pandemic and sudden virtual learning scenario. When asked what they need most amid the pandemic, the school requested printers to finally be able to print the necessary government-provided education modules for their students. Donors received sticker bundles promoting Filipino culture designed by our team. We successfully raised over 50,000 pesos and the machine was received by the school on June 2021 after almost 3 months and several lockdown announcements to work around.

Handog Karunungan

KNK launched Handog Karunungan, our video interview series. We will be deconstructing educational inequity in the Philippines and highlighting the works of amazing individuals that have worked to counter these inequities. These individuals have either executed projects to reduce inequities or have stories of resilience themselves! Our first interview can be found here.

Edicute Collaboration

Edicute Incorporated’s Balik Eskwela Program, in partnership with Kahon ng Karunungan PH (KnK), aims to raise funds for indigenous school children in Sitio Upper Pusog, Occidental, Mindoro for the upcoming School Year 2020-2021.

Since the indigenous community doesn’t have any access to technology, these Mangyan school children have to go to school to attend their classes physically. Following the protocols of the New normal, our goal is to build better and bigger classrooms for these indigenous school children. We will be providing each student with our self-learning kits that include K-12 workbooks in English, Social Studies, Math, and Sciences that are contextualized to Mangyan culture.

The KNOW Movement

We launched KNOW (Knowledge Worldwide), a network of youth-led NGOs from all parts of the world, whose mission is to combat educational inequity. Our objectives are as follows:

  1. Share stories of educational inequity all over the world by reposting pieces from our respective publications

  2. Share our resources with one another (workbooks, apps, etc.), so we may achieve our objectives more easily (tutoring, outreach trips, etc.)

  3. Collaborate on projects that can help all of us (ex. College Pathways focuses on scholarship information sessions. We will be hosting one in the Philippines too, and you can also hold information sessions about scholarships in your own community).

Laptop Donation

The teachers at Malagnat National High School believed that they needed to ensure their students were technologically literate. However, they had a scarcity in resources and could not provide their students with an actual desktop computer for their computer classes. They had to rely on computer drawings to understand how a computer works. In an effort to address the school's concern, KnK donated two desktop computers.

Storybook Collection

To earn money for the supplies for our Malagnaat trip, we self-published a collection of short stories for children. The book includes 3 children’s stories and information about our advocacy. To date, we have sold over 100 copies. If you’d like to purchase the book, please use the contact form on our homepage.

KnK attended the Global Issues Network Manila (GINila) conference in order to launch our cookies for a cause drive. The concept was for students to donate school supplies in exchange for cookies. We collected school supplies that we put into the "kahons" distributed to Malagnat National Highschool students.

Donation boxes

To collect donations, we emailed various organizations to request to place boxes within their buildings. Currently, there are donation boxes set up in Princeton Review Center, International School Manila, and Asian Development Bank.
